EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The former home of Ocean State Steel in East Providence is well on its way to becoming a new waterfront housing development.
Mayor Bob DaSilva and developer Richard Baccari II of Churchill & Banks joined local leaders on Thursday to cut the ribbon on the first house sold on the former brownfield, which was abandoned more than 20 years ago.
The city broke ground on the project back in 2022, with plans to build nearly 400 single- and multi-family units, including several units of age-restricted affordable housing.
